Buying a SIM as a visitor
Mandatory biometric issuance: SIMs are issued only after NADRA fingerprint verification (Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System). Foreigners need their original passport and a valid visa (or Pakistan Origin Card); Zong issues at most 2 SIMs per foreign individual, valid for the visa period. Phones: a foreign SIM used in roaming works, but a phone used with a Pakistani SIM must be registered in PTA's DIRBS; visiting foreign nationals can register one device free for up to 120 days from arrival (dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs), checked against FIA passport and arrival data. 2026: PTA plans NADRA facial verification as an alternative to fingerprints (trials done, awaiting NADRA approval as of July 2026).
